DigiMEDIA Group in Valencia – Day 4

Wednesday saw the digiMEDIA team travelling down the coast to Gandia, where there is a university campus which offers courses in Media Production. We were able to make use of their studio to record our pre-scripted podcasts. This was a marvelllous opportunity for the pupils to try out professional equipment and to learn about how stressful it can be when you are working in a control room and are responsible for the success of a recording. All our pupils did very well, of course, and they certainly learned a lot.
Such a studio would be fantastic to have, but is completely impossible in a normal middle school. We are confident, though, that we will be able to produce good-quality audio and video material once our school’s portable mini studio is up and running. There is still a bit to do on that front, but we hope to be able to begin using it soon – we will provide detailed information about that here on the website.
We also had a dubbing workshop, where the pupils were able to try dubbing some scenes of a French film into English. Not at all easy, and although we will not be translating any Hollywood movies in digiMEDIA, it may well be necessary to rerecord speech that is not properly audible, and lip-syncing it is a skill that will definitely take some practice. The first steps have been taken and now the pupils know what some of the pitfall and possible problems are.
As the Erasmus group is so large, we were split into two groups today, with the first group enjoying some beach time, while the others were working. After lunch the groups swapped, so everyone got the best of both worlds. A fantastic day!
