4d and 4f in Ireland – Day 7

Sunday’s trip was to the Cliffs of Moher to look at the fantastic view and appreciate the changeability of the Irish weather. What had been a beautiful morning with blue skies soon turned into a very wet and windy one. The skies were still blue, but only way above the rainclouds.
We then stopped off at Lahinch for more fish & chips and some time on the beach. The sun even came out for a short while, which was enough for Finn to decide that he would go for a “swim” after all. It was a very short one, but credit where credit is due – he did get his whole body under water. Plenty of people were out surfing, but they all had wetsuits, which is a different proposition altogether. We did see one other person swimming, complete with a wooly hat to keep her head from freezing…
Despite the inclement weather, everyone enjoyed their day. A beach like the one at Lahinch is not something we see every day, and it is easy to see why people who grow up in such areas really miss it if they have to move home and live inland. It is a special feeling to look out over a wild sea and know that the next bit of land is over 3000 km away. Now the pupils are spending their last evening with their host families and will be packing their bags ready to return home tomorrow.
4f were also at the Cliffs of Moher this morning and are spending their last night at the youth hostel in Galway. We will meet them at the airport in Dublin tomorrow afternoon.
